Nevado de Santa Isabel: A journey through the snow that is going

An experience to contemplate change and regenerate the bond with the Nevado de Santa Isabel, a territory that today calls us to reflect on the loss of its glaciers.

On this Bioexperience, we journey through high-altitude grasslands, lagoons, frailejones (Espeletia plants), and ancient glaciers in the process of disappearing, learning from the silence, the rhythm of the body, and the living history of water.

An experience to contemplate change and regenerate our connection with the mountains, the Nevado de Santa Isabel, Poleka Kasue, a territory that today calls us not only to admire its beauty, but also to reflect on the loss of its glaciers and the urgent need to redefine our relationship with nature.

In this bio-experience, we journey through páramos (high-altitude Andean ecosystems), lagoons, frailejones (Espeletia plants), and ancient glaciers in the process of disappearing, learning from silence, the rhythm of the body, and the living history of water. A route to unlearn haste, to feel the present, and to inhabit the planet with respect, care, and profound gratitude; a space to contemplate one of the last tropical glaciers in Colombia, from a perspective that honors life.

  • Day 1. (3-4 hours of hiking – 6 km) Paths of Mist and Memory: Departure from Manizales or Pereira in 4x4 vehicles. Entrance to Los Nevados National Natural Park, Conejeras sector. Acclimatization hike and technical briefing, communal dinner, and overnight stay at the El Cisne refuge (3,950 m a.s.l.).

  • Day 2. (8 hours – 14 km) Encounter with the summit, the transforming mountain: Early morning departure by vehicle to the Conejeras area. Start of the ascent via páramo trails, reaching the edge of the glacier and getting ready with technical equipment. Hike to reach the 4,980 m a.s.l. summit. Descent, arrival at the refuge, lunch, and return to Pereira or Manizales.
